Spanning forty years, Adrienne Barbeau has worked in just about every medium including TV, film, and Broadway. Adrienne Barbeau was born in Sacramento, California June 11, 1945. Her father was French Canadian and her mother was Armenian and divorced when Adrienne was twelve years old. Apparently, this traumatized Adrienne to such a degree that she went through therapy for years. Adrienne attended junior college Foothill College Los Altos Hills California. After an unremarkable run as a termite-control worker, Adrienne Barbeau set out for New York, working a variety of jobs including go-go dancing in New Jersey night clubs. At one point, Adrienne Barbeau was the girlfriend of Huff Hefner's when he started Playboy magazine. In 1963, at age 19, Adrienne Barbeau toured Pacific military bases performing with the San Jose Civic Light Opera. Also at 19, Adrienne Barbeau was on her way to Broadway where she debut as Tevye's second daughter, Hodel, in Fiddler on the Roof. "Grease" followed. In "Grease," Adrienne Barbeau recieved a Tony nomination for her creation of Rizzo. But it was the popular television show "Maude," playing Bea Arthur's daughter Carol Traynor, that skyrocketed Adrienne Barbeau to stardom. Adrienne Barbeau originally did not play Carol in the pilot. Indeed, Norman Lear did not think she was old enough for the role at first, but later decided on her. The series debuted on the CBS television network on September 12, 1972. After 141 episodes, the series ended after the sixth season on April 22, 1978, although Adrienne only made a few appearances during the sixth season. Adrienne Barbeau also went on to make many films for television including the Ace Award winning "Double Crossed: The Barry Seal Story" starring Dennis Hopper, "Burden of Proof" starring Hector Elizondo, and "The Santa Trap" co-starring Stacy Keach and Robert Hays. Fans of the much adulated star can see her in a recurring role on "Drew Carey" as Oswald's mom, and in the growing cult HBO series Carnivàle," where she plays Ruthie. But fans probably know Adrienne Barbeau best from such classic films as "The Fog," "Escape from New York," and "Swamp Thing" and other memorable roles in "Cannonball Run," "The Convent," "Creepshow," "Two Evil Eyes," and "Back to School." Adrienne Barbeau married famous horror movie director John Carpenter in 1979 but they later divorced. Adrienne Barbeau has also branched out to other mediums. In Los Angeles, she is known her as a television talk show host and a weekly book reviewer for KABC talk radio. She has also performed in night clubs in Reno and Los Angeles. And Adrienne Barbeau has starred in over 25 plays and musicals: "Women Behind Bars"; "Pump Boys & Dinettes"; "Kander and Ebb's"; "And the World Goes Round"; "Love Letters"; "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"; "Drop Dead"; Neil Simon's "Lost in Yonkers"; and Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore's "What the Rabbi Saw." Ironically, Andrienne Barbaeu returned to her roots "Fiddler on the Roof" but this time playing Tevye's wife, Golde (remember, she played Tevye's second daughter, Hodel previously). Adrienne quipped, "I figure if I live long enough, I'll be playing Golde's grandmother, Tzeitle." Adrienne Barbeau also lends her distinctive voice to television and radio commercials, narrating many books on tape, television documentaries, and the Imax film "The Living Sea." She is also the voice of Catwoman in "Batman, The Animated Series." Amazingly, She released a cd collection of the country, blues, jazz and pop tunes she does in her concert appearances across the country. Adrienne Barbeau is currently writing There Are Worse Things I Could Do, a collection of stories about her life. On the personal front, in March of 1997, Adrienne Barbeau gave birth to identical twin boys. Again her humorous side emerged when she said that she was "the only woman on the maternity ward who was a member of AARP".
